Surviving After The Rat Race

About

Retirement isn’t an ending. It’s the beginning of the best chapter you’ve ever written.

But getting there – and making the most of it – takes more than a savings account and a calendar date. It takes a vision. A plan. And maybe a little inspiration from people who’ve been thinking about this longer than most.

That’s what Retirement Ventures is here for.

Why This Site Exists

After watching my parents struggle to figure out what retirement actually looked like day-to-day, I realized nobody was talking about the life side of retirement – just the money side. So I started RetirementVentures.

We cover the things nobody puts in a brochure: what to do with your mornings when there’s no commute, how to travel smarter on a fixed income, how to stay sharp, stay connected, and stay excited about what’s ahead.

Who I Write For

If you’re somewhere in your 50s or early 60s, retirement is no longer a distant idea – it’s a real horizon. You’re asking real questions:

  • Will I have enough?
  • What will I actually do every day?
  • How do I make this transition feel like freedom, not loss?

We write for you. Every article, guide, and resource on this site is built around that window of time – the years before retirement, when your choices still have the most leverage.

What You’ll Find Here

  • Lifestyle & purpose – how to design a retirement that feels meaningful, not just comfortable
  • Travel & adventure – making the most of the freedom ahead
  • Health & energy – because a great retirement starts with feeling good
  • Money & planning basics – practical perspective, not financial advice

A Note from Derrick

“I’m Derrick, and I’ve spent the last 12 years thinking, writing, and talking to people about what a great retirement really looks like. This site is the thing I wish had existed when I started asking these questions.”

Anthony (Derrick) Greene has a background spanning military service, corporate roles, and blogging:

  • Military Service: He is a decorated disabled veteran who served nine years in the United States Army. His service included both combat and non-combat roles at duty stations around the world.
  • Corporate & Public Sector Experience: Prior to his current endeavors, he worked for large corporate companies, a state railroad agency, and a global wireless company.
  • Blogging & Content Creation: He runs the blog Retirement Ventures, where he shares his personal experiences transitioning to disabled veteran life, managing a family of six, and discussing early retirement strategies, personal finance, and veteran lifestyle topics.

Thanks for being here. Stick around – there’s a lot ahead worth getting excited about.
